ACCREDITATION STANDARDS

Idaho Residential Schools may be accredited by the Idaho Department of Education, Idaho state board of education or by an accrediting association recognized by the Idaho department of education. If accredited, all reports must be filed with the Idaho department of education. A residential school that is not accredited is subject to the jurisdiction of the department as a children's treatment facility. Idaho residential schools must issue a disclosure report to the department of education. The department must then certify if the school is accredited or non accredited. If the school has been accredited, the department will not exercise any further jurisdiction over the accredited residential school. A residential school that is not accredited is subject to the jurisdiction of the department as a children's treatment facility until accreditation is certified by the Idaho department of education.

An Idaho Residential School is classified as a program which provides a planned, scheduled, regular, academic or vocational school program in the elementary, middle or secondary grades. The school must provide services substantially comparable to those provided in publis schools. A residential school does not seek, receive or enroll sustents for treatment. A residential school is not a college or university, a children's camp or a public or private day.
